Hurricane Recovery Efforts in Shore Acres

The Gathering Church, a cornerstone of support and hope in the Shore Acres neighborhood of St. Petersburg, Florida, finds itself in urgent need following the devastation wrought by two hurricanes. First, Hurricane Helene caused severe flooding in the area, and then additional damage came with Hurricane Milton, compounding the destruction. Ground zero for these storms’ impact, Shore Acres saw widespread flooding, and The Gathering Church suffered significantly—its sanctuary, children's classrooms, nursery, and offices were inundated. Flooring has been ruined throughout, drywall was torn out to prevent mold spread, and critical damage to the fire system has rendered some spaces unusable. Alongside structural losses, the church has also lost furniture, children’s supplies, and essential equipment.

For years, The Gathering Church has been a pillar of spiritual and practical support for the community. From providing food and hot meals for the hungry to offering children's education, spiritual counseling, and personal support services, The Gathering has been unwavering in its commitment to community care. But with the extensive damage to its building, many of these essential programs have had to be suspended.

Despite this setback, the church has not given up on its mission. In every way still possible, The Gathering continues to serve those affected by the hurricanes. Yet, for The Gathering Church to fully return to its community work, it needs help to rebuild. The remediation costs alone—including drywall, flooring replacement, painting, and the fire system repairs—are substantial.
